Destination 30

With all the talk of writing and reading I do and I have never thought about this! I followed the advice from the blog I follow hey teen books hey, and I looked into some other young adult fiction blogs. On one, just browsing I found this link: 30 Books Everyone Should Read Before Turning 30.

I don’t know or agree with all the books on the list, but most of them are classics and here is my confession: I haven’t read very many of them. I haven’t even read some of the ones most people were forced to read in high school or college. This wouldn’t be so bad but I teach AP and these books are the basis of the entire class. It’s shameful and I have been wanting to really catch up on them for the last few years.

Another confession: I read really slowly. Very slowly…I take in every detail and remember quite a bit so I guess it evens out, but there is no way that I will ever be able to finish reading all those books in 6 months with children, teaching and my reading speed. But! I was thinking it would be a great project for my first year in my 30’s! Yes, this is why I am a geek, but I’m okay with that.

So here is yet another survey. What books do you feel are must reads by the time someone turns 30? What is your favorite book? Are there any books I shouldn’t waste my time on?
